Maastricht rebels are proud to announce the arrival of their new point guard Sasha Ponosov who has played at an international level.
When asked what has motivated him his reply was:
“In my childhood I tried and pushed myself for all sports(baseball, football, swimming, etc…), but none of them was something special except basketball.
I started playing basketball at 2 grade when I was 7 and from this time it became my lifestyle, my passion and my desire.
Firstly I practiced and played with guys older than me, then I was promoted to play with even bigger guys, which for me showed i was going the right direction. i was able to learn, focus, make routines and schedules for myself.
In 2018 I played my first international tournament in the Slovenia Balland at the age of 14 I selected to play with adult guys in Ukrainian First league
As we all know, the war in my country has had a terrible effect on sport, kids, lifestyle and simple community things like music, sport, laughing and freedom. So when I was asked to come to maastricht to be a part of the team, the community and the city dynamics, this meant I had a family to come to, a family that is important for me, that will grow, and have a meaning. I was needed somewhere, this gave me hope, because of war,in order to continue my basketball journey I now have a place to call home…….maastricht
I’m looking forward develop as a player and a person to be able to make a difference in the community, to help other kids like i have been helped in the past, and I look forward in helping to develop the club."
